Robert "Bob" Berg, age 70, life long resident of Manhattan, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with A.L.S. on Monday, April 4, 2022. Survived by his loving wife of 42 years Patricia (nee McGrath) Berg, devoted children Eric (Jen) Berg of Arizona, Emily Berg of New York, and Rachel (Utsab Baidya) Berg of Chicago, grandsons Oliver and Nolan Berg, brother Daniel (Kathleen) Berg, mother-in-law Rita McGrath, sister-in-law Mary (Craig) Bisping, brothers-in-law Bill (Missy) McGrath and Tom (Kirsten) McGrath and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Jean (nee Fehrenbacher) Berg, father-in-law Edward McGrath and brothers-in-law James and Daniel McGrath. Bob attended St. Joseph Grade School, Providence Catholic High School, Bradley University and Lewis University. He was employed at Exelon Nuclear for his entire career, working his way to the top and retired after 42 years. In Bob's school days, he was infamous for his ability to play basketball, run track, and cross country. Bob was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and also became a basketball coach at the grade school for a number of years. Bob served his community on the Manhattan Village Board as a Trustee and was a Manhattan Fire Department Commissioner. In Bob's spare time he enjoyed fishing, traveling and watching the Chicago Blackhawks, but above all, Bob loved his family, he was a family man at heart and spending time with them is what brought him most joy. Bob lived by the motto that everyone deserves kindness and respect. He made sure that everyone around him, especially his family was happy and healthy. Visitation for Bob will take place on Thursday, April 7, 2022 from 3-7:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place on Friday, April 8, 2022 beginning with prayers at 9:30 A.M. at the funeral home in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan for 10:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob's name can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Grade School
