Age 80, of Wilton Center, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL. Born October 23, 1936 in Joliet, IL to the late Elmer and Vera (nee Flatt) Borden. Lifetime resident of Manhattan and Wilton Twp. Since Robert was eighteen years old he worked for Cochran Plumbing and Heating where he eventually became Co-Owner. After selling the business he was employed for the Will County Forest Preserve as his "retirement job", which he truly enjoyed. He also retired as Assistant Chief from the Manhattan Volunteer Fire Department with over thirty-seven years of service. Robert would often reminisce about his favorite past time, water fighting. He was the "nozzle man" and the Manhattan Fire Department "Red Coats" were champions at most of their weekend competitions. Bob was a very loving and generous man, he will always be remembered. Surviving are one daughter, Linda (Bob) Davis of Wilton Twp.; three sons, Robert (Michelle) Borden, Jr. of Peotone, IL, Bruce (Lori) and Brian (Gynith) Borden, both of Wilton Twp.; seven grandchildren, Brian (Sherri) and Brett (Nina) Davis, Cortney (Dan) Kosmos, Krissi (Tim) Lengel, Linnea, Brandon, and Brian Borden; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; and his wife, Barbara (nee Domagalla) Borden. In keeping with his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Forsythe Gould Funeral Home: 507 S.
