Rodger Lee Bettenhausen, age 83, of Manhattan, went to meet his Lord on March 28, 2017 at his home on the family farm after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Survived by four sons, Rodney (Linda), Ronald (AnnKaryn), Randall (Cheryl), Richard (Jacqueline); six grandchildren: Kyle (Erica) Bettenhausen, Lauren (Ryan) Olson, Dana Bettenhausen, Elizabeth Bettenhausen, Max Bettenhausen, and Ryan Bettenhausen; two great grandchildren: Jude and Blair Olson. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia Ann (nee Hauert) of 53 years, infant son Robert Craig, parents Fred and Sylvia Bettenhausen, brothers Donald Fredrick and Glenn John Bettenhausen, and sister Eunice Kroll. Born and raised in Will County, Manhattan, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Darmstadt, Germany for 13 months. He was a registered, licensed Illinois Land Surveyor for 25 years. He was an active member of the Green Garden United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer for 30 years. He maintained Green Garden Greenview cemetery for 34 years. He was Secretary of the cemetery association for 30 years. He was a member of the Will County Farm Bureau, Will County Threshermen's Association and member of the Darmstadt Veterans Group. He was a great lover of country and blue grass music and its stars. He was a pretty fair vegetable gardener. He loved playing horseshoes. And he was a lifelong diehard Cub fan. Visitation will be Friday, March 31, 2017 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Manhattan, IL. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Green Garden United Methodist Church, Green Garden Twp., IL with Pastor Richard Young officiating. There will be an additional one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service. Interment Green Garden Green View Cemetery, Green Garden Twp., IL Memorials may be made in his name to Green Garden United Methodist Church.
