Ronald L. Deininger, 81, of Elwood, Illinois passed away peacefully at his son's home with wonderful assistance of Joliet Area Community Hospice on Monday, March 6, 2017. He was born in 1935 in Joliet, Illinois. He is survived by his son, Douglas W. Deininger (Lori) of Plainfield, Illinois, his daughter, Deborah M. Urish (Tim) of Kilbourne, Illinois; and five grandchildren, Kyle and Kelly Deininger and Nicholas (Sondra), Gavin and Eileen Urish. His is survived by his loving friend and travelling companion, Joanne Rachke. Also surviving is Donald Shewmake (Debra) of Elwood, Illinois, who was like a son and their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Deininger in 1983, his mother, Maybelle (Reiter) Deininger in 2007, and his wife, Eileen (Moran) Deininger in 1992. Ronald grew up on a small farm in Joliet, Illinois, went to Joliet Township High School and attended the University of Illinois. He loved raising and showing purebred cattle and spent his summers traveling the country with his mother exhibiting shorthorn cattle. He was a teacher of agriculture and a favorite driver's education instructor. He was most proud of mentoring his Jackson Township agricultural students for the majority of his career. He was a part-time farmer which he referred to as "a weekend warrior." He enjoyed spending time hunting on his farm with his friends and family. He loved fishing trips and playing Euchre with his teacher friends. Visitation for Ronald will be Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 4-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Manhattan. Funeral service will be 9:30 A.M., Friday, March 10, 2017 from Forsythe Gould Funeral Home in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan, for 10:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Brown Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Memorials can be made to Brown Cemetery, 19508 Noel Road, Elwood, IL 60421 would be most appreciated.
