Russell (Russ) James Chobot peacefully left this earth on Sunday, May 23, 2021, with his loving wife and daughter by his side, at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, IL at the age of 75 years young.
He leaves behind his wife of 48 years Barbara Ann (nee Koeberl); daughter Sarah (Brett) Falgiatano; grandson Parker Falgiatano; brother Stephen (Gayle) Chobot; brother-in-law Joseph (Mary) Koeberl; nieces and nephews Trevor (Rachel) Chobot, Kevin (Alisa Bowman) Chobot, Jennifer Chobot, Katherine (Chris) Trackim, Joseph (Brandee) Koeberl; great-nieces and great-nephews Kara, Peter, Valerie, Alex, Dylan, Maya, Zoe, Delaney, two foster children; great-great-niece Piper; and numerous wonderful friends and neighbors.
Born on March 23, 1946 to the late Stephen A. and Agnes S. Chobot, Russ was raised in the Gage Park neighborhood in Chicago, IL and was one of three brothers.
Russ received a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois Institute of Technology in Industrial Psychology. He began his career at Argonne National Laboratory, working in the Physics Department manning a particle accelerator and finished his career working for Illinois Communications, as an Electronics Technician. After retirement Russ took up a passion of wood laser engraving. Of course that meant taking apart the machine and rebuilding it exactly to his liking, something he did as a young boy with his toys.
Russ was a man of character but best known for a good pun or "dad joke." Some would say "I'm not sure whether he is serious or just pulling my leg."
Russ became a husband to Barb on a lovely rainy day in October 1973. He was Barb's rock and supported her many endeavors but always tried to remind her to keep life simple – even when she never listened. Russ NEVER went anywhere without index cards in his pocket. His last message written to Barb was found on a 3" x 5" index card and read "do not let life become overwhelming."
Russ became a father to Sarah in April 1986. He was her number one fan in everything she did and successfully attempted to embarrass her on one too many occasions. His words to her upon leaving for college were "you know the number, if you need bail money."
Russ became a father-in-law to Brett in October 2017. He was thrilled to have a son to talk "shop" with and to finally say "welp, she's all yours now!"
Russ became a grandpa to Parker James in January 2021. He was so proud to have a grandson. It was the ultimate gift of complete fulfillment and love in his life.
Russ will forever be missed but will always be with us in our hearts and memories.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held privately.
