Sherman “Lee” Hansen, of Manhattan, passed away on September 5th, surrounded by his loved ones. Born in 1956, Lee moved to Manhattan in 1966 and was married to Cindy for more than 52 years. Lee is survived by his wife, Cindy (née Bray); his daughter JoAnne (Matt) Smith; and his beloved grandchildren, Sadie, Fiona, and Henry. Also surviving are his brother Larry (Mandy), brother's-in-law, Rob, Mike and Steve (Paula) Bray, and John Schrolucke. Lee is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Betty; his in-laws, Bob and Barbara Bray; his sisters-in-law, Debby Bray and Cathy (Bray) Schrolucke.

Lee was known for his hard-working attitude and ability to talk to anyone. He co-owned Hansen’s Supermarket for many decades and loved serving the customers in Manhattan. After his family sold the supermarket, Lee began a successful real estate career until his retirement in 2022. He enjoyed nights out with friends, attending Cubs games, and spending time with his grandchildren.

In his last four years, Lee suffered from Lewy Body Dementia. Unfortunately, this disease affected Lee in a manner that did not allow him to properly prepare for his next stages. Friends and family continued to visit, and for this, we are eternally grateful. Many times, these visits were the best days for Lee. We are grateful that he is no longer suffering.

Visitation for Lee will be held at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home in Manhattan on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 12:00pm until the time of his funeral service at 2:00pm. Burial will take place immediately following the service at St. Joseph Cemetery in Manhattan.
