Stanley E. Utermark, age 93, of Elwood, IL, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2020 at his home with family at his side after a long illness. Survived by his loving wife of 67 years Carola J. (nee Koch) Utermark, his children; Mary (John) Perham, Tom (Lynn) Utermark, Kathy Smith, Carola (Paul) Beemsterboer, Carl (Jennifer) Utermark, Teresa (Paul) Mathews, Mike (Renee) Utermark and Kris (Jill) Utermark, his grandchildren; Kim (Matt) DeVries, Victoria (Matt) Poss, Matt (Gabi) Utermark, Steven (Drea) Utermark, Kaitlyn (Eric) McGee, Trisha Smith, Keith (Ashley) Smith, Joe Rodgers, Mike (Casey) Rodgers, Brian Rodgers, Tim Rodgers, Adam (Courtney) Utermark, David Utermark, Megan Gassel, Bill Mathews, Jenna Mathews, Kaitlyn Mathews, Jake (Kristin) Utermark, Josh Utermark, Emily (Konnor) Smith, Will (Kathryn) Utermark, Nora Utermark and Hayden Stasiak, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his mother Louise Alexanderson and his sisters and brothers-in-law; Shirley (Len) Nordin and Jeannne (Martin) Larson. Stanley was born in Chicago on April 10, 1926. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion, volunteered at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery and participated in Honor Flight. Stan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manhattan, Holy Name Society at St. Nicholas in Roseland, AARP, Telephone Pioneers, Sheldon Heights Civic Association and he volunteered at South Suburban Hospital. While Stanley had many accolades, his greatest accomplishment was his family. Spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was when he was most happy. Stanley was a lovable, grouchy, old man who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 3-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 5, 2020 beginning with prayers at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home followed by procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan, for 10:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will take place at 12:00 Noon at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
