Obituary

Stephen S. Sartore, age 79, of Manhattan, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Illinois Veterans Home, in Manteno, IL. Survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Loretta (nee Davis) Sartore, his children Patti (Larry) Cludray, Ricky (Kim) Yates, and Tammi Kestel. His grandchildren, Jessica (Dustin) Roberts, Adam Kestel (Mallory), Tana Kestel, Tammy (Steve) Platek and Tracy (Dave) Rymarscuk, Bradley (Donna) Yates, Amanda (Kenneth) Marks, Garrett & Mitchell Hinzman and several great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Evelyn (nee Fuelner) Sartore, two grandsons Jason and Justin Cludray, his brother and sister-in-law Ned and Janet Sartore and his son-in-law Don Kestel. Steve was a proud veteran who served his country with the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Evansville, Indiana where he was born and a longtime member and past Commander of the Manhattan American Legion Post #935. Steve truly enjoyed his time with his comrades on the Veterans Honor Guard serving as the Artillery Commander. He retired from Stateville Correctional Center after 32 years and began other past times such as, fishing, gambling, watching football, watching the Indy 500 and reading the Farmer's Weekly from cover to cover. Steve was a social and friendly person; on any given day you could see his orange van moving from place to place about town. Steve, may your soul be at peace and your gun forever silent, thank you for your service. Visitation for Steve will be on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be the same day at 12:30 P.M. also at the funeral home with Pastor Carol Currier-Frighetto officiating. Interment with full military honors will immediately follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S.
