Susan D. Koopman, age 62, of New Lenox, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2023, with her loving family at her side. She is survived by her mother Jeanne (nee Rupp) Engstrom, her husband of 37 years Kevin Koopman, her children Seth Koopman and Kori Koopman, her brother Richard (Kim) Engstrom, her mother-in-law Carole Koopman, her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Jeff (Linda) Koopman, Michele (Dave) Dileto, Jennifer (Lance Eck) Koopman, numerous nieces, nephews and friends and her faithful feline companion "Samarah". Preceded in death by her father Richard Engstrom and her father-in-law Walter Koopman. Susan was a graduate of Lincoln-Way Central High School, Northern Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in information technologies and University of St. Francis with a teaching degree. Susan utilized her degree in I.T. while working for First of Chicago Bank and later at Panduit. She taught briefly at Eisenhauer Elementary School and then Susan finally found herself when she went to work for the State Police in background and expungements. Susan enjoyed scrapbooking, photography, and gardening of all kinds. Susan took great joy in spending time with her kids, she had fond memories of taking a bee keeping class with Seth and taking a trip to Sweden and Iceland with Kori. Susan aspired to travel a great deal more if only there was more time. She was loving, understanding, compassionate and nonjudgmental, attributes that allowed her to be a caregiver to countless friends and children, she was a mother to all. Susan was a kind and unassuming person who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation for Susan will be on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 4-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place the following day, July 12, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will immediately follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. At 12:30 P.M.
