Virginia Lorraine Hannigan (nee Durkin)) age 95, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 20, 2021 with her family at her side. Survived by her children Janice (Michael) Colin, Kevin (Claudia) Hannigan, Sean (Patricia) Hannigan, grandchildren Katie, Bridget, Jim, Patrick, Brian, Colleen and Kelsey, and great grandchildren Caeden, Shaelie, Heidi, Brianna, Teddy, Abby, Patrick, Leah, Kevin, Carolyn, Andrew and Hannah. Preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Myrtle (nee Peterson) Durkin, her husband Lee Hannigan (1998), her sisters Elizabeth Velcich and Theresa Steinhaur and her brother Anthony Durkin. Virginia was born in Chicago where she was a graduate of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Grade School and of Harper High School. Virginia and Lee met during the war years and became engaged in 1945. They moved to Manhattan 26 years ago and became devout and active members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Virginia was a member of the Council of Catholic Women and helped serve at Shepherd's Table and many funeral luncheons in the church hall. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. Visitation for Virginia will be on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 4-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Friday, June 25, 2021 beginning with prayers at 9:30 at the funeral home followed by procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan for 10:00 A.M.
