Obituary

Age 75, of Manhattan, IL passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, December 15, 2018. He was born to the late Howard and Mabel (nee Minetto) Delaney on March 24, 1943. He is survived by his three children, Brent (Diana Randolph) Delaney, Crista (Blake) Gebhardt, and Brandy (Brian) Walsh; his nine grandchildren, Ashley, Delaney, Sophie, Max, Owen, Charlie, Finn, Molly and Samuel; one great-grandchild, Avery; and two siblings, Carole (Darryl) Rahn and Kathleen (Don) Cagwin. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Jacqueline Daniel; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mabel Delaney; and two siblings, Doris and Edward Delaney. Bill was born in Aurora and a life-long resident of Manhattan, Illinois. After graduating from Lincoln-Way High School, he began working for Local #150 as an Operating Engineer. He spent the majority of his career working for Chellino Crane and Corsetti Structional Steel. Bill was a member of the Local #150 for over fifty-five years. He found enjoyment serving on the Manhattan Park Board, many of those years as President. He also served on the Manhattan School Board as well as the Lincoln-Way Special Education Board. After retirement, Bill enjoyed local car cruises, putzing around in his garage, laying in his hammock, but most importantly spending time with his family. He adored nothing more than his children and grandchildren and was the "Proudest Papa in town"! Visitation will be at the Forsythe Gould Funeral Home: 507 S. State St., Manhattan, Monday, December 17, 2018 from 3-7 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation. Memorial services will be from the Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. to the St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Manhattan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be directed to the Joliet Area Community Hospice.
