William "Bill" Gallagher Jr., age 80, of Manhattan, passed peacefully Thursday, July 10, 2014 at his home. He is survived by three daughters; Colleen (Ron) Stetzel and Peggy (Keith) Yunker both of Peotone and Katie (Terry) Allocco of Joliet, three sons; Michael of Manhattan and Bill and Tim of Florida, eight grandchildren; Nate, Ross, Maggie, Matthew, Trevar, Rory, Troy and Blake, one sister Marie (Ed) Planert of Downers Grove, one brother Packy (Pat) Gallagher of New Lenox.
Preceded in death by his parents William Sr. and Mary Shields Gallagher, his wife Shirley (2003) and one brother Edward (2004).
Bill worked for 20 years as a foreman for US Steel. He served his country with the US Army. Born and raised in Manhattan Twp. Playing horse shoes, poker and going fishing were his favorite pastimes, but his real passion was story telling. He was very good at it.
Funeral service for William Gallagher Jr. will be Monday, July 14, 9:30 A.M. from Forsythe Funeral Home to St. Joseph Church, Manhattan, for 10:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Cremation will follow. Memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be most appreciated. Visitation Sunday, 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
