William E. Voigt, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Silver Cross Hospital with his family at his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Betty Voigt (nee Altgilbers), children, Dorothy, Patty (Sean) Hannigan, Michael (Mary), Mary Ann (Eric) Scharpf, grandchildren, Colleen (AJ) Kay, Kelsey Hannigan, Lauren and Carter Voigt, Randall and Karen Scharpf, great grandchildren, Drew and Hannah Kay and sister-in-law, Shirley Lundgren. Numerous nephews also survive. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lily Voigt and his brother, Rev. Richard Voigt. Bill graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1949. He attended Illinois Tech and received a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1954. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea where he helped build hospitals and schools. Bill worked in the engineering department at Acme Steel before working at Andrew Corporation where he helped develop cable connectors. Bill also worked at Maremont Corporation working on shock absorbers and mufflers. After retiring, he volunteered at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed taking hiking trips out west, working on his cars, singing in the church choir and spending time with his family. Visitation for Bill will take place on Friday, July 29, 2022, from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home Manhattan. Funeral service will take place the same day beginning with prayers at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home followed by procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan, for 11:30 A.M.
